Pretty and Strong 2009

Our commitment to supporting the Komen for the Cure Foundation is pretty serious. We launched the Pretty and Strong special edition component series in 2004 and in that time we've donated the monetary equivalent of over 1500 mammograms to Komen's Oregon and SW Washington chapter. We're proud of our program, encouraged by our growing partnership with the local Komen affiliate, and, yes, pretty serious about the cause. Being serious with our resolve, however, does not mean a constant, somber disposition. There is joy in the strength of those that live with and through breast cancer. There are moments to be happy when surrounded by loved ones. There is meaning, now, to pink as the symbolic expression of unity.
Strength. Kinship. Pink. What better representation of those traits is there than the hippopotamus? Go ahead and tell us you didn't smile the first time you saw that pink hippo image. It sure cracked smiles around here. Perhaps you didn't get it at first. A hippo? For breast cancer awareness? Hey, why not? The hippo is among the fiercest of animals, determined to protect its clan with unbelievable power and speed. The message - never underestimate the strength or character of anyone no matter the condition they appear to be in.
And don't you just want to tickle the pink belly of a baby hippo?
